
YURKO JOSEPH R. On Saturday, December 7, 2013, our dear Uncle Joe, age 95, went home to be with the Lord. Born in McKees Rocks on November 13, 1918, he was the son of the late Andrew and Julia Yurko; brother of the late John, Andrew (Patricia), George (Bernadine) Mary Novelselski, (Metro) Ann Bacher, (Charles), Josephine Jasen (John), Margaret Rectenwald (Charles). He is survived by his beloved sister, Helen Murawski, (Anthony) and sister-in-law, Bernadine Saunders; nine nieces; five nephews; 22 great-nephews and nieces; and 14 great-great-nieces and nephews. Joe was a longtime member of the former St. Marks's Parish where he was an usher and elevator operator. He was very proud of his Slovak heritage and attended many Slovak Day celebrations at Kennywood Park. He loved football and followed the Steelers, Pitt and Sto-Rox teams avidly. Joe was a former employee of the Gordon Oil Company in McKees Rocks. He was a World War II US Army veteran and served in the Pacific Theatre with the 915th Ordnance Heavy Automotive Maintenance Company. Joseph was a wonderful son, brother and uncle and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
