SHOSTAK EVA (OSCZYPOK) Age 95, of Sewickley, PA, passed away on Saturday, February 22, 2014. She was born in Dnistryk-Dubovyi, Ukraine on May 15, 1918. Eva came to the United States with her husband, Joseph, in 1949. As a young adult, she fled the Bolshevik occupation of her country in 1939. She was taken into custody in Poland by the Nazis and sent to work in a labor camp in Germany, where she met Joe and started a family. They dreamed of coming to America after the war ended. Eva, Joe, and their sons, Robert and John made that wish a reality and settled in Ambridge, PA. They had their third child, a daughter, Martha, and moved to Sewickley, PA shortly thereafter. Eva had an unwavering faith in God. She was a member of the SS. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church since her arrival in Ambridge. Family and friends were Eva's love and joy. She brought many Ukrainian traditions to her family, like pinching pierogies, and her beautifully designed Ukrainian needlepoint pillows are family treasures. The annual Shostak 4th of July celebration at Eva's house became a wonderful celebration of old and new. Eva was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Shostak, in 1987. She is survived by her daughter, Martha (Mark) Jamison; and her sons, Robert (Charlotte) Shostak and John (Linda) Shostak; she leaves behind seven grandchildren, Laura (Brian) Judy, Jennifer (Donnie) Fray, Adrienne Shostak, Brandon (Josie) Shostak, Parker Jamison, Caitlin (Matt) Bostic, and Alexandra Shostak; and four great-grandchildren, Matthew Judy, Patrick Judy, Juliana Fray, and Annalise Shostak. Family will greet friends in the JOHN SYKA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 833 Kennedy Drive, Ambridge, PA on Wednesday, February 26, 2014, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., with a Parastas Service at 6:15 p.m. A Panachyda Service will be held in the John Syka Funeral Home on Thursday, February 27, 2014, at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Service in the SS. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, Ambridge at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in SS. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Ambridge.
