DUCH EDWARD (EDDIE) Of Columbia, SC, Eddie was known for his quick smile and pleasant personality. He was born September 9, 1925 in Pittsburgh (Rankin) PA. Eddie moved to Columbia, SC in 2002 and has resided at National Health Care, Parklane Road, since his move here. Mr. Duch served in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1946 when he was discharged due to a jeep accident. He served in the Indianhead Division, 2nd Infantry, 2nd Battalion, 38th Regiment Company E. Mr. Duch took part in the Battle of The Bulge, and was awarded a Bronze Star and numerous other medals. Eddie was retired from the U.S. Postal Service and the A & P Grocery Store. Eddie was a member of the St. Michael's Greek Catholic Church in Rankin, PA. He later attended Faith Baptist Church in Wilkins Township, PA., and church services at National Health Care. Eddie (known affectionately by his family as Unkie) is survived by his nephew and wife, John and Julia Goricki of Fort Myers, Florida; niece, Barbara Orfitelli of Davenport, Iowa; caregiver and friends, David and Linda Doar, and Ruby Jardine of Columbia, SC; sister, Irene Dean of Chicago, Illinois; and many great, great-great and great-great-great nieces and nephews; also his dearest friend, Alice, who resides at NHC. The family would like to thank the employees and management of National Health Care, particularly Ms. Dorothy Dixon, RN, Dr. David L. Greenhouse, and all the staff of NHC for all their compassionate and friendly care of Eddie. THOMPSON FUNERAL HOME, in Lexington, SC, is serving the family. A Memorial Service and funeral plans will be made at a later date. The family requests no flowers. Donations should be made to the charity of one's choice.
