LATAGLIATA RALPH A. Age 97, of New Kensington, on February 25, 2014, in Highland Center, Brackenridge. Born February 4, 1917, in Arnold, to the late Antonio and Cunegunda (Ricci) Latagliata. Preceded in death by the late Pauline F. (Arabia) Latagliata in 2003. Besides his parents and wife, a brother, Edward Latagliata; three sisters, Concetta Ciciarelli, Rose Lizzi, and Mary Fiorina. Member of Mt. St. Peter R.C. Church, New Kensington, the Holy Name Society of the church, American Legion Post #347, The 6th Armored Division Association, Alcoa 25 year Club, Sons of Italy #881 and the Alle-Kiski Valley Senior Citizens Center Inc. He graduated from Arnold High School in 1936. While growing up as a young student and working at the Paramount Theater as an usher in order to help support the family, he took courses at New Kensington Commercial School. During his lifetime, he served on many community projects and activities such as former member of the March of Dimes for the City of New Kensington, a member of the Board of Adjustment, he served as chairperson for the Community Fund Drives for the American Red Cross and served as Italian Day chairman. He also served as Congressman John H. Dent's field secretary for eight years and during that time was cited for performing outstanding service in government relations. He retired from Alcoa as a payroll accounting clerk after 30 years of service. On January 1, 1971, he accepted a position with the Pennsylvania State University as the bookstore manager and retired in 1979. Mr. Latagliata was a proud veteran of World War II, in the United States Army and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant. He is survived by a son, Ralph V. (Christine) Latagliata, Georgia; three daughters, Linda M. (Jack) Henkel, Lower Burrell, Paula E. (George) Silowash, Irwin, Mary Ann (Barry) Wilson, Gibsonia; four grandchildren, Victoria and Anne Elise Wilson, Chicago, and John and Olivia Latagliata, Georgia; also surviving are many nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Friday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the GIUNTA - BERTUCCI FUNERAL HOME, INC., 1509 5th Ave., Arnold, PA 15068, JohnPaul Bertucci, Owner, Supervisor. Prayers of Transfer will take place Saturday 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. at Mt. St. Peter R.C. Church. Burial in Greenwood Memorial Park Mausoleum, Lower Burrell. The family expresses their deep appreciation and gratitude to the staff of Highlands Center and Heritage Hospice for their excellent care during our Father's stay. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mr. Latagliata's name to Mt. St. Peter R.C. Church, 100 Freeport Road, New Kensington, PA 15068.
