HARWAY NORMAN I. Died peacefully, on February 24, 2014, at the age of 88. Resident of Milwaukee, WI, formerly of Wilmette, IL, Pittsburgh, PA, Mashpee, MA, Rochester, NY, and New York, NY. He was predeceased in 2010 by his beloved wife of 59 years, Vivian T. Harway. Devoted father of Maura Harway (Richard Mark) and Judith Harway (Daniel Armstrong); and grandfather of Alice Mark, Sylvie Armstrong, Keith Armstrong and Hannah Mark. Norman's parents, the late Joseph and Hannah Harway, raised their son in Manhattan during the Great Depression. Norman attended New York's public schools including Townsend Harris High School and the City College of New York. After army service in World War II (in both the European and Pacific theaters), Norman earned a doctorate in Psychology from the University of Rochester in 1952. It was in that program that he met Vivian, they married in 1951 and were the only two to earn degrees in their cohort. Norman had a long and distinguished career in the field of clinical psychology, including service on the faculties of the University of Rochester and at the University of Pittsburgh (where he was department chair) and, while on sabbatical, the University of South Australia. An avid photographer, his remarkable pictures of landscapes, flora and fauna decorated his home. In retirement, he and Vivian traveled the world, and delighted in their grandchildren's accomplishments at home. A private family memorial has been held. In lieu of flowers, gifts in Norman's memory may be made to the Norman and Vivian Harway Scholarship Fund at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design, 273 East Erie Street, Milwaukee, WI 53202 (Attn: Vivian Rothschild).
