TOIA JOSEPH JOHN January 1, 1922 – March 19, 2014, of Wilkins Twp., surrounded by his loving family at home, went to our Lord on the Feast of St. Joseph. Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Domenick and Mary (Russo) Toia; devoted husband of 67 years of Nicoletta (Cicero) Toia; cherished and very sadly missed by his children, Mary Loera (fiancé Robert Block), Donald Joseph, and Providence Fleming (Reid). “Papa Joe” was devoted to his two granddaughters, Colette Pagano (Gino) and Providenza Rocco (Michael) as well as his great-grandson, Nino Pagano. One of the few remaining of the “Greatest Generation”, Joseph was the recipient of the Purple Heart for bravery in World War II at the Battle of the Bulge. An insurance agency manager for Prudential and Principal Financial for many years, he will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him. A true gentle man, a scholar who graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1947, his greatest joy was being with his family. An only child, he treasured his wife, his children, his granddaughters, and his great-grandson. Visitation will be Friday, March 21, 2014, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at CHARLES W. TRENZ FUNERAL HOME, INC., 11110 Frankstown Road, Penn Hills. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Penn Hills on Saturday, March 22, 2014, at 12:30 p.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Squirrel Hill. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America, 355 Lexington Avenue, 15th Floor, New York, New York 10017. Send condolences at post-gazette.com/gb
