CYERT MARGARET SHADICK Age 89, a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully, with her family and the staff of Longwood at Oakmont by her side, on Wednesday, April 9, 2014. Margaret, former matriarch of Carnegie Mellon University, and her late husband, Richard M. Cyert, were a vital part of the CMU community for more than 50 years. She was named an honorary alumna and received an Andrew Carnegie Society Award for her dedication and leadership. She was a founding member of the Library Development Board. She earned a Master's degree in child development at the University of Pittsburgh in 1982 and worked with many area organizations interested in early childhood education, including the CMU Child Care Center, later renamed the Margaret Shadick Cyert Center for Early Education and Program for Collaborative Learning. She is survived by her three daughters, Lynn Cyert, Lucinda Steffes, and Martha Cyert; her three grandsons, Michael Steffes, Jacob Simon, and Max Simon; her sisters, Evelyn March, Charlotte Wilson, and Constance Conradi; and close friend, Linda Benish.
