SCHROEDER CHARLOTTE HASKELL YOST (BRYAN) Born August 19, 1920, in Charleston, South Carolina to Isaac Marion Bryan and Charlotte Porcher Bryan, Charlotte died peacefully at her home in Sewickley, Pennsylvania, on April 21, 2014. Charlotte spent her early years in Charleston, where she was presented at the St. Cecelia Ball in 1937. She graduated from the Ashley Hall School in 1938 and from the College of Charleston in 1942. She married James Mitchell Yost in 1942 and moved to Sewickley in 1946 when James completed his service in the U.S. Navy. There, they resided in Sewickley Heights where Charlotte infused her home and community with her unique sense of grace, style, and humor. She served as president of the Little Sewickley Garden Club twice, once in 1955-59 and again in 1998-2000 and as president of the Garden Club of Allegheny County from 1976-78. She was an early board member of and helped to establish Valley Care. As a descendant of William Thompson of South Carolina, she was a member of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America and served as first vice chair and second vice chair of that organization. She was also a member of the Sewickley Historical Society, Allegheny Country Club, and St. Stephen's Church. During their marriage, Charlotte and James enjoyed an abundance of friendships, three loving children, exhilarating travel, and many dogs, until James died in 1982. In 1984, Charlotte married Frank Schroeder, uniting their lives and loved ones. Together they enjoyed their families, community, travel, and the births of many grandchildren. They lived happily in Edgeworth, Pennsylvania, until Frank's death in 2005. In addition to her beloved parents and spouses, James and Frank, Charlotte was predeceased by her sister, Rosa Lumpkin; her brother, John Bryan; and her stepson, Edward Schroeder. She is survived by her sister, Elizabeth Sims; her children, Charlotte (John) Robertson, Walter M. Yost II, his former wife, Rives Rea Yost, and Ann Yost; stepchildren, Hap (Elizabeth) Schroeder, Francie (Henry) Eastwood, and Jean Schroeder; grandchildren, John (Jenn) Robertson, Isaac (Aimee) Robertson, James Robertson, Ann Robertson, Robinson Yost, Charlotte Yost, and James Bibb; great-grandchildren, Charlotte Robertson and Abigail Robertson; step-grandchildren, Libby (Marshall Schoenthal) Schroeder, Kate (Kane) O'Neill, Luke (Katie) Schroeder, Brandon Eastwood, and Heather (Andrew Cohen) Eastwood; step-great- grandchildren, Charlotte Schoenthal, Grant Schoenthal, and Caroline O'Neill. A private Memorial Service will be held on May 23, 2014, in the Sewickley Cemetery, followed by a reception for friends and loved ones at the Allegheny Country Club from 5-7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be sent to The Union Aid Society of Sewickley; The Western Pennsylvania Conservancy; or Forbes Hospice.
