WEINRICH HELENE S. Born December 6, 1922 in Karras, Russia, passed March 13, 2014. Helene attended Univ. in Russia and graduated from the Univ. of Pittsburgh with a B.A. in 1965 and an M.Ed. in 1968. She was the comet that launched the Russian language program in the Pgh. Public Schools in the 1950s and received the 1972 PA Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award from the American Association of Teachers of Slavic and Eastern European Languages and multiple program honors. She retired in 1988 after 24 years of service and dedication. Her beloved husband, Leopold Weinrich, passed in June 2006, and her sister, Elsie Mavrovic, passed in April 2014. Helene's daughter, Theresa, was blessed to have her as a lifetime mother, mentor, teacher and best friend. Helene is survived by her family, Drs. Terri and Jim Henderson, Thelma Henderson, Max Mavrovic, Sonya Sergi, Ralph and Leeann Sharrett, and Michael and Lauren Rosenthal.
