POLI MARTHA JOANN OLIVER 91, of Derry, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2013. Born on July 7, 1922 in Derry, Pennsylvania, Martha was the daughter of the late Luigi and Christina Oliver. She grew up in Derry and earned a Bachelors of Science Degree from Seaton Hill College in 1944. She began her teaching career as a science teacher in Easton, Maryland and Braddock, Pennsylvania before touching many lives of hundreds of students in Derry, Pennsylvania during more than thirty years of teaching Home Economics. She retired from teaching in 1986. Martha was a passionate golfer and member of the SILU Ladies League. She was tremendously dedicated to the Derry Area High School musical program, applying her talent to create hundreds of costumes for school musicals, even in her retirement. A dedicated mother, Martha always put her children and grandchildren first, and left them with warm memories of holidays, beach vacations and beautiful handmade clothing. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Peter Poli, whom she married in 1949, and passed away in 1961. Her brothers, Frank, Orlando, and Rev. Father Domenic Oliver; sisters, Alice Colaianni, Armea Colaianni and Emma Stypula. She is survived by sisters, Marguerite Connelly and Mary Nussbaum; brother-in-law, Richard Nussbaum; as well as a son, Anthony; and a daughter-in-law, Rosalie Barsoti; son, Henry, II; and daughter-in-law, Jane Lee Mei Ling; daughter, Penny; and son-in-law, Mark Miller; grandchildren, Eric Poli and wife, Beatriz, Jonathan Poli, Dominique Poli, Cristina Poli George and husband, Brian, Megan Miller, Jack Miller, Justin Miller; and great-grandchild, Mikael Poli; several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Friday, August 9, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the McCABE FUNERAL HOME, 300 W. Third Avenue, Derry. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, August 10, at 11:00 a.m. in St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Derry. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be directed in Martha's memory to the Derry Area High School Musical Program via Derry Area High School, 982 N.
