HILL JOHN HOWARD Died peacefully, on August 10, 2013, just two days before his 73rd birthday. Born in Pittsburgh in 1940, he graduated from Shady Side Academy in 1958, Yale University in 1962 and Yale Law School in 1965. After 25 years with Reed, Smith, Shaw and McClay, he resigned his partnership to work as a specialist in labor law with the firm of Jackson Lewis until his retirement in 2006. John had a passion for classical music and served on the boards of The Pittsburgh Symphony and the Pittsburgh Opera by giving both time and generous financial support. He was especially interested in the development of young artists. He will be remembered as someone who gave freely of himself to his family, his friends and to Pittsburgh organizations. He was a collector of cars of every description, a Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania history buff, an avid traveler and the owner, through the years, of several elegant homes/gardens in which he loved to entertain. John is survived by his beloved lifetime partner, William J. Shanley; his brother, William F. Hill, II; his sister-in-law, Dorothy; his nieces and nephews, and their eight children. By John's request, there will be no visitation and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a contribution to the PSO, the Pittsburgh Opera or a charity of one's choice.
