O'TOOLE MARY LOUISE Age 85, of Boyers, PA, passed away peacefully at Country Meadows in Bridgeville, PA, Monday, August 19, 2013. Born in Pittsburgh, PA, July 3, 1928 to Lt. Raymond James O'Toole and Elizabeth Margaret Soffell O'Toole, she graduated from St. Mary's of the Mount in Mt. Washington, PA. She was a professional singer in the late 1940s through the 1970s, singing blues, dixie, and ballads. She played 46 Moose and other clubs and performed regularly at the Holiday-House in Monroeville, featured in the Horizon Room. She performed throughout the country and often in Cleveland, Erie, and Maryland and was called the “Modern Day Sophie Tucker.” She retired after 31 years as a cashier and bookkeeper for the A&P Tea Store. She was a member of St. Peters Roman Catholic Church in Slippery Rock, PA. Survivors include a sister, Elizabeth Smith of Pittsburgh, PA; three brothers, Harry O'Toole of Pittsburgh, PA, Raymond James O'Toole of Boyers, PA, John G. O'Toole of Pittsburgh, PA; multiple nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Dorothy Jean Reiss. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Pete Roman Catholic Church, 670 South Main St., Slippery Rock, PA on Thursday, August 22, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at with Rev. Father Kevin Poecking presiding. Friends will be received at the SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock on Thursday from 8:30 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. Interment will be in Queen of Heaven cemetery in McMurray, PA.
