WOLFSON MILTON L. Age 96, passed away on March 13, 2014. Son of Hyman and Fannie Wolfson, he was predeceased by brother, Lionel. Survived by sons, Lawrence (Irma) of Shaler, Mark (Claudia) of Murrysville, David (Eri Fujita) of Los Angeles, Russell (Elaine) of Hermitage; grandsons, Matt (Mary) of Pittsburgh, Brian of Leeper; and great-grandson, Max of Pittsburgh. He considered himself a pacifist but felt compelled to enlist in the Army Air Corps and served in an 8th Air Force bomber squadron in WWII. Milton was a political and social activist, from protesting Mussolini to grape boycotts to Vietnam to the Iraq War on the corner of Forbes and Braddock. He was an expert bridge player, attaining the rank of Life Master and was still an active player. An avid gardener, his profusion of plants of all shapes and colors across from Taylor Alderdice delighted many passersby. ALLEN JAMES RUSSELL Beloved husband, father, brother, and son, passed away at Roper Hospital, Charleston, South Carolina, on January 29, 2014. He was 88. He was born on February 7, 1925, in Detroit, Michigan to Russell M. and Helen L. Allen. Jim was blessed with a rich childhood that included years in the Boy Scouts, where he earned the Eagle rank and Order of the Arrow. Later, he graduated from the Staunton Military Academy in Virginia. He proudly served his country in the US Army during WWII with the 104th Infantry Division in Europe. He earned a battlefield promotion to Lieutenant and was awarded the Silver Star and Purple Heart. His reverence for and devotion to his wartime friendships and experiences remained with him for the rest of his life. He was especially proud to be able to participate in an Honor Flight experience with his two sons in 2012. Jim married Marjorie Jean Bowers in 1947 in New Cumberland, Pennsylvania. After earning his degree from Penn State University, they raised four children, living in Connecticut, New Jersey, and Michigan as he pursued his passion for selling stainless steel. He worked for Wallingford Steel of Wallingford, Connecticut and Allegheny Ludlum Steel of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was a gifted salesman who thrived on the relationships he made throughout his lengthy and successful career. In 2000, several years after retiring, he and Marjorie moved to Aiken, South Carolina, where she died in 2008. While living in Connecticut, he and Marge were members of the Farms Country Club where they formed many strong friendships. Jim served as the club's president from 1989-1990. In Aiken, Jim and Marge embraced their life at Cedar Creek where he continued his love affair with the game of golf. Throughout his life, he was an avid reader, enthusiastic cribbage player, and relished any reason, athletic or otherwise, for a friendly wager. He remained a devoted Nittany Lion and Big Ten fan until the day he died. In later years, Jim actively pursued his Christian faith and became a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Aiken, South Carolina. He was comforted by his associations there and treasured his friendships with neighbors, George and Marjorie Milne and special companion, Mary Alice Lockhart. He is survived by one brother, Robert (Betty Lynn) of San Antonio, Texas; and four children, Nancy Harris (John) of Loma, Colorado, Catherine Share of Portland, Maine, Richard Allen (Marie) of Charleston, South Carolina, and Donald Allen (Cheryl) of Charleston, South Carolina. In addition, he is survived by 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 224 Barnwell Avenue NW, Aiken, SC 29801. He was born in Sewickley on November 22, 1927, to the late Joseph and Mary (Pellegrino) Munizza. In December of 2003, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Angeline (Pennetti) Munizza. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded by siblings, Frank Vescio, Thomasina Muzzy Vescio, Margaret Vescio Roppa, Jerry Vescio and James Munizza. He is survived by his beloved sister, Frances Munizza of Sewickley and many devoted nieces and nephews along with numerous friends. John was owner of Munizza Beer Distributor located on Walnut St. in Sewickley. He also was owner of the Glass Tower Motor Inn with his brother Jim in Moon Township for 35 years. WERNER DAVID STEPHEN Age 65, of Pittsburgh, died tragically on March 4, 2014, while on vacation in Mexico. Born December 29, 1948, to Ephraim and Nancy Werner. David graduated from the University of Pittsburgh and was formerly president of National Torch Tip Inc. Preceded in death by his wife, Terry, he is survived by his mother, Nancy Werner; sons, Jacob Werner and Eric Hoffman; granddaughter, Marley; brothers, Michael and John; and sisters, Sari, Joan and Elizabeth. A Memorial Service will be held at RALPH SCHUGAR CHAPEL, INC., 5509 Centre Avenue, Shadyside on Sunday, March 23, 2014, at 3 p.m. Visitation one hour prior to the services (2-3 p.m.).
