He was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church, Lake Worth, where he served as an usher. Mr. Thomas will be lovingly remembered by his family, including his wife of 57 years, Juanita Thomas; daughter, Teresa Williams; son, George L. (Kimberly) Thomas, Jr.; grandchildren, Leanne Williams, Dana Rose Thomas; great-grandchild, Hayley Robison; sister, Margaret (Angelo) Nese. ROBERTS MARTHA Age 68, of Charlotte, NC, died on December 2, 2014. Born July 27, 1946, in Pittsburgh, Martha, daughter of the late Clinton and Lois (Buice) Roberts, passed away quietly at her home after a short illness. She leaves to cherish her memory, three sisters, Jean Manghan (Earnest), Pittsburgh, PA, Joan Roberts, Charlotte, NC, and Loretta Roberts, Cleveland, OH; and a brother, David Roberts, Houston, TX; three nieces, Doreen Manghan, Bristow, VA, Darlene Manghan, Charlotte, NC, and Yolanda Cato, Pittsburgh, PA; a nephew, David Roberts (Chantai), Charlotte, NC; seven great-nieces and nephews; two aunts, Gertrude Williams and Louise McMullen, both of Pittsburgh; and a host of other relatives and friends. Martha was educated in the Pittsburgh Public Schools where she graduated from George Westinghouse High School in 1964. She received her B.A. degree from the University of Pittsburgh. In 2003, she became a licensed minister. A Memorial Service will be held on December 8, 2014, at The Park Church, where Minister Roberts served until her untimely death. WOODS ANTHONY E. “TONY” Age 63, of Pittsburgh, passed away Sunday, November 30, 2014, with friends and family by his side. Born November 13, 1951, he is the son of the late Samuel William and Patti Palmer Woods; brother of the late Laurence Woods; he is survived by his loving husband, Ron; he is the esteemed brother of William, David, Richard and Charles; and sisters, Vicki Schroeder of Albuquerque, NM and Penny Elliot of Washington, PA; Tony is also survived by several adoring nieces and nephews. He will be dearly missed by his family and the numerous friends made over the years. Tony was a long time member of the Recovery Community. "He was devotedly involved in the social justice and labor movement." "He was a bright light in a world of hatred and darkness." Tony received his undergraduate degree from Carlow College in Early Childhood Education and a Master's Degree in Education from the University of Pittsburgh. Tony spent over 25 years in the Pittsburgh Public Schools, retiring in January 2014. Until his illness, Tony worked with the Pittsburgh Federation of Teachers. Tony was a well-loved, respected, and admired Kindergarten teacher at Spring Hill, Morningside, King, and Colfax Schools. Tony was a light for all students, a mentor, friend to fellow teachers, and an active, vocal advocate for children. As one teacher said, "Tony is the Lorax of Education; he speaks for all children. " These are the truest words, spoken about this loving, warm, dedicated teacher, and friend. A profound thank you to the staff of The Center for Compassionate Care - Canterbury Place, for their care, support, and compassion during his stay. "HE WAS LOVED BY ALL AND PRAISED BY MANY." MARRONE VIRGINIA M. “GINGER” Age 71, of West Windsor, passed away on Tuesday, December 2, 2014, surrounded by her loving family at Compassionate Care at St. Francis in Trenton. Born and raised in Pittsburgh, she has been living in West Windsor, NJ since 1986. Ginger was a graduate of Homestead High School, Homestead, PA, Class of 1961. Ginger began her civil service career right out of High School, passing her civil service exam and going directly to work for the Department of the Navy at the Pentagon. She then went on to the IRS in Pittsburgh, PA in the Intelligence Division. She finished her civil service career with the DOD at the Oakdale, PA Operations Base as the assistant transportation supervisor, supervising civilian and military personnel, responsible for the movement of Army, Navy and Marine personnel and their families, worldwide. Then left the service and began raising a family in 1972 and became managing director and producer for the Performing Arts for Children in Pittsburgh, PA, until moving to New Jersey. In her spare time, Ginger enjoyed golf, tennis, skiing, and reading mystery novels. She also liked country and western, sing alongs, going to Broadway shows, musical productions, and watching “soaps”. Predeceased by her parents, Stanley and Elizabeth (Visoskis) Straiter; and a sister, Veronica 'Ronnie' Nowak; she is survived by her husband of 49 years, Robert S. Marrone; a son, Ryan A. and his wife, Susan; and their three daughters, Ellie, Grace and Paige; a daughter, Leah Caroline Marrone; a brother, Stanley Straiter and his wife, Libby. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, December 9, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. at SAUL COLONIAL HOME, 3795 Nottingham Way, Hamilton Square, NJ.
