
OSWANT MARGARET (BURTT) Age 94, of Pittsburgh, passed away on Friday, February 27, 2015. She was born October 23, 1920, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late John and Nancy Burtt. She was a graduate of Peabody High School and took classes at Carnegie Institute of Technology. She was the beloved wife for 62 years of Richard C. Oswant; loving mother of Penny (Gerald) Martin of Greenbelt, MD, Rachel (Stephen) Cupcheck of Pittsburgh, and Richard Rick Oswant of Cave Creek, AZ; grandmother of Lindsay (Luke) Thorwart, Heather (Mauno) Kork, Wade (Betty Jeanne) Cupcheck and Casey and Kyle Oswant; great-grandmother of Caleb and Susannah Thorwart. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Margaret was a member of the First Unitarian Church of Pittsburgh, where she was an active member of the Women's Alliance. She worked for a time as a hostess and cashier in the beloved Tic Toc Shop at Kaufmann's. Margaret had a love for the arts, which led her in earlier years to belong to the Mendelssohn Choir and the Pittsburgh Savoyards. Margaret and Richard also volunteered countless hours working with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, the Pittsburgh Opera and the Carnegie Museums. A memorial service for Margaret will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2015, at 1:30 p.m. at the First Unitarian Church of Pittsburgh, 605 Morewood Avenue, Shadyside.
