She was preceded in death by beloved husband, Col. Vincent J. Guinee, Jr. (USMC), with whom she shared 47 happy years. Born in Tallassee, AL on May 19, 1934, Dorothy was the daughter of the late Douglas and Libby Powell Scroggins. Dorothy graduated from Tallassee High School and after earning a full scholarship, graduated from St. Margaret's School of Nursing in New Orleans. She was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Air Force in 1958, and served as a registered nurse at numerous postings in the formative days of the Air Force/NASA Project Mercury manned space program from 1958-1961. Raised in most humble beginnings, Dorothy was a true Southern belle, and she never lost her soft Southern accent or her Southern hospitality. Dorothy was fiercely independent and devoted to her family and friends. She had an infectious laugh, boundless energy and unmatched generosity. Her virtuous life was marked by endless self-sacrifice, and the example she set was a constant source of inspiration for her children, grandchildren and friends. She will be sadly and forever missed. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the entire staff of St. Mary's Villa Nursing Home for the kindness and compassionate care given to Dorothy during her stay there.
