HAPPNER WILLIAM L. “BILL” Born in Erie, PA, son of the late Louis W. and Hazel R. (Kessler) Happner, nephew of the late Leo (Dorothy) Heppner and George (Ann) Brown, previously of Carnegie, PA, age 94, of Bethel Park, passed on, to the great beyond, Saturday, April 23, 2016, on Passover day. Beloved father of Raymond R. (Susan) Happner, South Park, PA, Ruthie M. Happner Hale, Bethel Park, PA, and the late Margaret A. "Peggy" Happner Liner, North Myrtle Beach, SC; grandfather of Joseph K. (Tara) Finau, Verona, PA, Nora B. Happner, Huntsville, AL, and William L. (Thais) Happner, Casselberry, FL; great-grandfather of Isaac A. Nelson, Eleanor C. Finau and Rafael J. Finau; also survived by many dear nieces and nephews, cousins and relatives. Preceded in death by his former wife and mother of his children, Bernice M. "Bunny" (Hoag) Happner, and by his later companion, Florence C. Schmidt, fellow- pet-rescue-volunteer. “Hap” graduated 1941 class, football MVP, at St. Luke's High School in Carnegie, where his long and varied work history began as chauffeur for the St. Luke's Nuns, who encouraged William to be “a Good Samaritan!” He worked as an ambulance driver, a pipefitter, and then served in the U.S. Army, WWII, Staff Sergeant, Continental P.O.W. Camp, German Prisoner Guard and Mess Hall SSgt. Supplies Cook and Baker, Ft. Meade and Gaithersburg, MD, awarded: Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon and World War II Victory Ribbon. He went on to work the next 30 years as a Freight Agent and Traffic Safety Officer for the Norfolk & Western Railroad. After RR retirement, Bill continued working an additional 23 years, including as security guard for Chartiers Country Club, and at his favorite job of working with his son, Ray, driving all around this half of the state to assist with the upkeep on the PA Lottery machines. A lifelong animal lover, Bill caringly served as a Western Pennsylvania Humane Society Officer, doing rescues and transports for dogs, cats and wildlife in need. He enjoyed writing, carpentry, swimming, physical fitness and health, having fun get-togethers, and was a member of The South Park and East Liberty Table Tennis “Ping Pong” Clubs. Bill loved angels, music, playing piano, reading/watching inspirational stories, walking the family dog, special visits and cards from dear ones, and having some snacks to “munch on” especially apple pie! He was very fond of reminiscing with treasured photos and family snapshots and regularly expressed his sincere longing and looking so forward to being together again in the grand reunion with God's great family up in Heaven!!! A graveside and memorial service will be held in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 31, 2016, with a luncheon to follow nearby at the Original Pancake House South Hills. McCLOSKEY MILDRED L. “MILLIE” Age 91, of Pitcairn, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, May 25, 2016. She was born on August 14, 1924. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Clara (Lucas) McCloskey; siblings, Peggy McCloskey, Charlotte Veazey, Rose Ardine, Dolly Ankney, Edna McLay and Thomas McCloskey; and child she raised, Linda Sparks. Mildred is survived by her brothers, Walter McCloskey, Jr. and Anthony McCloskey; and sister, Grace Bardine; children she raised, Carol (Bob) Martinelli, Charles (Peg) Veazey, Sr., Roy Veazey, Jr., Shirley (Ed) Zito, Betty Osterried and Paul (Debbie) Veazey; niece, Clara Dixon; also 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mildred retired from Red Lobster, was a volunteer with Pitcairn's Meals on Wheels, attended the Center Avenue United Methodist Church in Pitcairn and loved to sing. MARTINELLI DOLORES Age 85, of Penn Township, formerly of Penn Hills and Wilmerding, passed away on Thursday, May 26, 2016. Loving mother of Rosemary Martinelli (Gary J. Budd), Lisa Anne Martinelli (David J. Patosky), and Anita Martinelli-Land (Michael D. Land, Jr.); grandmother of Jake Edward Pollock, who was her pride and joy; sister of Lawrence J. Oliver. She is also survived by nieces and nephews throughout Pittsburgh and Maryland. Dolores was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Mary (Zappi) Oliver, her former husband, James A. Martinelli; and her siblings, Connie Duva Falvo Walker, Helen M. Bionta, Thelma V. Fischione, Patsy “Pat” V. Oliver, and Norma M. Tamburri. Dolores was a conscientious woman who worked for many years at several companies. She worked for Westinghouse Airbrake and Assurance Glass and Mirror as an administrative assistant, at Gimbels in downtown Pittsburgh, and in the bakery at Foodland. After she was helped by a PA state representative, she decided to give back to her local community by working at every primary and general election for more than a decade. Dolores loved the arts and musical theatre, and taught her daughters to love them, too. She played the piano and flute and enjoyed listening to her brothers, Pat and Larry, and their “big band” orchestra. She sang in the church choir and was a cantor at St. Bartholomew Roman Catholic Church in Penn Hills. Dolores loved celebrating holidays with her family and friends, baking cookies and pizzelles, and babysitting her grandson, Jake. She was a terrific ballroom dancer, and also enjoyed getting together with the “golden girls” in the choir. An avid Pittsburgh Pirates, Steelers, and Penguins fan, she could cite sports statistics and player records with precise accuracy. Patricia was born March 14, 1942, in Ingram, the daughter of the late James R. and Thelma (Edwards) Rowley. She was the beloved wife of the late John O'Toole who died in 2012. COHEN ELINOR CLAIR BARBROW Age 95, of Pittsburgh, PA and Sarasota, FL passed away peacefully in her home at the Sarasota Bay Club on Tuesday, May 24, 2016. She was preceded by her adoring husband, Leonard M. Cohen; and is survived by her children, Judy Cohen Carrick, Jonathan Cohen and Stephen Marcus Cohen; and by her grandsons, Ben Carrick and Asher Cohen. Elinor lived a long, happy and active life, cherishing her family and enjoying music. She will be missed by many family, friends and neighbors. Her life will be celebrated at a later date. GRIECO JOHN J. On Monday, May 23, 2016, age 98, of Forest Hills, passed away from natural causes, with his family by his side. John was born in Homewood, PA and passed at home in Las Vegas, NV. He served his country for five years as a sergeant in the US Army during WWII. He went on to become a Master Draftsman for 45 years. John was the oldest son of nine and is survived by sister, Anne DiDiano; brother, Michael Grieco, both of Churchill; son, John Grieco, Jr. (Lori); grandchildren, Gina, Angela and Johnny Grieco; and great-granddaughter, Gianna, all of Las Vegas. He was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Elda (Nardini) Grieco.
