MACHI MARIO Of Hilton Head Island, died peacefully at his home on May 27, 2016, at the age of 67. Mario is survived by his wife of 42 years, Ruby Machi; three children, Dustin (Lisa) Machi of Blacksburg, VA, Katie Eure of Pfafftown, NC, and Mario (Nicole) Machi of Ardmore, PA; and six grandchildren, Lucas, Roman, and Leo Machi, Jenny, Reagan, and Brinkley Eure; siblings, Tony (Patsy) Machi of Pittsburgh, PA, and Mike (Charlotte) Machi of Pleasanton, CA; sisters-in-law, Dottie (Joe) Woods and Bobbie Carbaugh, all of Bluffton; and brother-in-law, Bob (Kathy) Ratliff of Acworth, GA; along with countless other close friends and relatives whose lives he positively impacted every day. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Mario and Antoinette Machi; and his brother, Frank Machi, all of Pittsburgh. Mario was born on July 26, 1948, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He graduated from South Hills Catholic High School in 1966 and St. Francis University in 1970. He worked for the Social Security Administration in several cities for 25 years before retiring and starting his own consulting business, Machi and Associates, and more importantly, taking on his favorite role, that of Grandpa to his six grandchildren. Mario was an active member of his communities in Wytheville, VA, where the family lived for 25 years, and in Hilton Head where he volunteered with organizations like Hospice Care of the Low Country and Safe Harbour. In addition to his community activities, everyone who knew him knows he was always the first person to go to if you were interested in buying a new (or used!) car because car shopping was one of his favorite hobbies, and he bought and sold more cars in his lifetime than anyone else you know. He also enjoyed listening to his favorite music as well as following his beloved Pittsburgh Pirates. GO BUCS! The family will be having a private burial. All are welcome to attend a celebration of Mario's life Saturday, June 4, 2016, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at Mario and Ruby's home at 145 Club Course Drive in Hilton Head. As Mario would want it, attire is Hilton Head Casual. In lieu of flowers, which won't survive in Ruby's home, please send donations to Hospice Care of the Lowcountry at P.O. Box 3827, Bluffton, SC 29910, or Hilton Head Safe Harbour, P.O. Box 5337, Hilton Head Island, SC 29938. The family would like to thank his oncologist in Hilton Head, Dr. Gary Thomas, the staff at Medical University of South Carolina, including Dr. Saurabh Chhabra, Dr. Hy Sussman, Dr. Kamal Patel, Hospice Care of the Lowcountry, particularly Kim Chase who was such a great support.
