SPENCER CHARLES H. 84, of Sewickley, formerly of Rainelle, WV, died Wednesday, August 7, 2013, after a long, brave struggle with Alzheimer's disease. He was born March 28, 1929 in Rainelle, WV, son of the late H. Kenneth and Ferris (Rose) Spencer. He was the beloved husband of 60 years to Mary Virginia (Jackson) Spencer; loving father of Sally (Malcolm) Nimick of Sewickley; and devoted Paw-Paw to Virginia Nimick of New York, NY, C. Spencer Nimick of Dallas, TX, and Malcolm Charles Nimick of Sewickley. He was predeceased by his siblings, Margaret (George) Yeargo, Marion (Ray) Bowles, and Hugh Kenneth (“Babe") Spencer, Jr. Charlie spent his career with CSX (C & O Railroad). His first job with the railroad was polishing engines with graphite in the car shop in Rainelle, WV. He then served as a railroad apprentice electrician in Gary Indiana, and finished his career in Baltimore, MD as system-wide Manager of Compliance and Safety Administration. During his time at CSX, he participated in construction of the then-secret, cold war bunker built to house Congress, under the Greenbrier Resort in White Sulfur Springs, WV. Charlie was a member of Masonic Lodge 166 in Clifton Forge, VA, and earned his 32nd degree Scottish Rite in Baltimore. He was an avid collector of clocks and an amateur horologist He belonged to the Valley Baptist Church in Lutherville, MD, the Senior Men's Club of Sewickley, and the Hon. Order of Kentucky Colonels. A Memorial Service will be held at the Sewickley Presbyterian Church, Chapel of the Resurrection on Saturday, August 17, 2013 at 11 a.m. Please use the Grant Street entrance. Private interment will take place in his beloved West Virginia. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Western Pennsylvania Chapter, 1100 Liberty Ave., Suite E – 201, Pittsburgh, PA 15222, or to the Rainelle Baptist Church, 309 7th St., Rainelle, WV 25962.
