A Naval veteran of WWII, he graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1949 and obtained his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine in 1953. VITUNIC MARGARET MARGE (HOHMAN) FLEMING Age 95, of Gibsonia, departed this life on Monday, August 3, 2015. Loving mother to Joseph S. Vitunic of Penn Hills, to Steven M. Vitunic of Gibsonia, to Steven's partner in life, Michael Montgomery, and to Erik Cornell; she is survived by two sisters-in-law, Elsie Vitunic and Virginia Whitman; and by her cherished cousin, Sr. Mary Frances Lutty, HSSJ, of Springfield, IL; and by several nieces, nephews and cousins. Marge was preceded in death by her loving husband of 44 years, Joseph M. Vitunic; and by her beloved daughter, Doreen, who entered eternal life 36 years ago. During WWII Marge was married to Cpl. Joseph B. Flemming, USMC who died in the service of our country during the invasion of Iwo Jima in 1945. Her parents were the late Joseph A. Hohman and Dorothy (Fichter) Hohman, both of Troy Hill, and Marge treasured her roots in that tightly knit German community. The happiest days of Marge's life were those spent raising her children and pets, keeping house and garden. She was a devoted Roman Catholic and Democrat, loved a good ham dinner, was quick to laugh, and was never heard to complain, even in adversity. As the decades of her long life wore on, she welcomed dozens of treasured friends into her life, many of whom survive to bear testament to her love, fortitude, and faith. A Mass in her memory will be celebrated on Thursday, August 20, 2015, at 11 a.m. at St. Victor's Roman Catholic Church in Bairdford, PA 15006. ROCHESTER SARAH KERN Age 79, of Monroeville, lost her battle with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) on Sunday, July 26, 2015. Sarah was born in Pittsburgh on September 1, 1935, to the late Edward and Martha Kern. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Rochester on July 10, 2015. She is survived by her daughter, Sallie Madia (Greg Madia); son, Craig Rochester (Thea Cooper); daughter, Susie Roman (Manuel Roman); adored grandchildren, Ryan, Christopher, Alex, Maya, Jane, and Ian; sister and friend, Geraldine Cerchiaro; and brother, Edward Kern. Sarah "Babe" Rochester was a vivacious woman her whole life. After high school, she began working as an administrative assistant at the Westinghouse Airbrake, Union Switch and Signal in Swissvale. There she met Bill Rochester whom she married in 1963. She then embarked upon a long career as a devoted wife and loving mother in Monroeville. She kept a beautiful and boisterous home, baking and cooking, gardening and entertaining. She had the greenest of thumbs and in later years became a Master Gardener, volunteering with Phipps Conservatory. She also loved writing, and put great effort into heartfelt memorials for various people and occasions. But most of all she enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and meeting new people. She had special warmth with acquaintances and strangers alike, and an engaging personality. Sarah was a hard-working, creative woman who lived her life with vigor and joy in the bounty given to her by God. She set an example of diligence and love for all who knew her. She was immensely loved and will be missed dearly by those who survive her. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, August 21, 2015, in the St. Regis Church, 517 Homewood Ave., Trafford. Sid Vicious, as he was known nowhere but on the tennis court, is deeply mourned by his beloved longtime friend and companion, Lois Jackson; his sister, Ruth Brooks of Queens, NY; his children, David (Avery Schneider-Pollack), Linda Bugosh (Don Bugosh) and Aaron (Rosalba Piazza); and grandchildren, Elsbeth, Mollie, and Samantha Pollack and Alex and Ryan Niemocienski; and expanding circles of family and good friends too numerous to mention. BROWN BARBARA J. (LOGAN) Age 83, of Glenshaw, passed into her Lord's presence on Monday, August 10, 2015. Beloved wife of 62 years to Willard V. Brown; loving mother to Warren (Lynn) Brown of McMurray, Marjorie (Craig) Linner of Pittsburgh, Beverly (Ciro) DeMarco of Moxee, WA, and Rebecca (Gregory) Pletz of Gibsonia; also survived by her grandchildren, Eric Brown, Alex Brown, Joshua Pletz, Rachael Pletz and Vanessa Pletz. She graduated with highest honors from PA College of Women (Chatham). She used her outstanding musical gifts volunteering in her church and community as an accomplished piano accompanist for area soloists and musicals. Close to her heart were the residents at Regency Hall & Vincentian for whom she accompanied sing-alongs for more than 30 years. For many years she was a braillist for the School for the Blind in Pittsburgh. She traveled extensively with her husband through North America and Europe and even took cruises up both the Panama Canal and Amazon River. But most of all, she will be lovingly remembered for always being there for her children and family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, John T. Logan. There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 17, 2015, at Northgate Church.
