CUFFIN Dr. BENJAMIN NEIL Died peacefully at The Palms of Pasadena Hospital on July 21, 2015, in South Pasadena, FL, at age 74. Neil had been a resident of this area since he retired from The Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Beth Israel Hospital in Boston, MA, more than 12 years ago. Neil is survived by his brother, Gary Cuffin of Conifer, CO; and his many friends whom he fondly referred to as the Breakfast Club. He was predeceased by his parents, Benjamin Cuffin and Emma Fuls Cuffin, both of Duquesne, PA. He was born in Duquesne, where he attended high school. He went on to study Electrical Engineering at Penn State University, where he received his Ph.D. Prior to joining MIT, he served in the US Army as an instructor at West Point. At MIT, Neil worked in the Biomagnetism Group, doing research on measuring magnetic fields within the brain and other organs of the body, leading him to become an international leader in the field of magnetoencephalograms (MEG). When he continued his career at Beth Israel Hospital, his focus was in the field of electroencephalograms (EEG). A celebration of Neil's life was held at the Shark Tail Restaurant in St. Pete's Beach with many of his friends and associates attending. Donations in Neil's honor may be made to his favorite charity, the Nature Conservancy. Burial will be at a future date next to his parents in Jefferson Memorial Cemetery, Pittsburgh, PA. He received a BS in Chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and worked for American Cyanamid and Gulf Oil Co. SUTLIC PETER S. Recently of Mechanicsburg, formerly of Harrison City, age 65, passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2015, peacefully at Hershey Medical Center surrounded by his family. Pete was born on July 8, 1950, and was preceded in death by his parents, Pete and Marie Sutlic. He will be sadly missed by his beloved wife of 39 years, Linda (Kauric) Sutlic; daughters, Kristen (David) Kost, DeAnne (Brian) Kern and Jennifer (Denny) Falo; his grandchildren, Brianna, Troy, Antonio, Santino, Camden; his expected grandchild, Charlie Rose; his brother, Alexander "Sonny" (Carole) Sutlic; sisters, Barbara (Michael) Conley and Ruth Ann Sutlic; and several nieces and nephews. Pete was a paratrooper in the US Army 82nd Airborne during the Vietnam War. He was a long time CFU member of Lodge 141 in East Pittsburgh. He was a guard at the Allegheny County Jail in the 1970s and then went onto work at Volkswagen of America. Lastly, for 25 years, he worked at Mercy Hospital of Pittsburgh as a Night Shift Supervisor in Security until he retired five years ago. Pete was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, loyal neighbor and friend. His children and grandchildren were the number one priority in his life. Pete enjoyed all his children's school activities, sporting events (especially softball), and was proud of all their achievements. He was an avid hunter in his earlier years and his prize possession was a ten point buck. Pete was a gun enthusiast and nature lover. He also enjoyed bowling, fishing, and going to the casinos. Working outdoors and cutting grass on his riding lawn mower was one of his favorite things to do. His grandchildren always made him smile and feel important. They were his reason for living. Pete was known as Honey, Dad, Pap Pap, Peso, Viejo, Pinky and to the children of the neighborhood, Mr. Pete. His loyal, four-legged companion, Lucy, remained his furry friend but his wife, Linda, will always be his best friend. Friends welcome Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at PATRICK T. Born April 3, 1930, in Pittsburgh, she was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Victor. She is survived by nieces and nephews. Sister Nancy was an educator, campus minister and counselor. After teaching for 20 years and as Guidance Counselor (Sr. Theresa Marie) at St. Francis Academy from 1970-1980, she ministered at the State University of New York, the College of St. Rose and Hudson Community College, all in Albany, NY for 30 years. Although retired, she continued a Counseling Program at the Motherhouse these past five years. In July, because of her declining health, Sr. Nancy moved to Westminster Place, Presbyterian SeniorCare in Oakmont. RAYNE JOHN Died on Sunday, August 9, 2015, after a long illness. John was born in Sydney, Australia on March 22, 1927. He received his B.S.E. and M.S.E. from the University of Sydney and received a Fulbright scholarship to study for a Ph.D. in physics which he received from the University of Chicago in 1954. In Chicago, John met his wife, Ann, while she was working at the Institute for International Education. After their marriage in 1954, John continued his research in low-temperature, solid state physics at the CSIRO in Australia and, upon his return to the U.S., at the Westinghouse Research & Development Laboratories in Pittsburgh. In 1964, John became a professor of physics at Carnegie Institute of Technology (now Carnegie Mellon University) where he continued to do research and teach until his retirement in 1996. John loved to sail and, in his younger years, to ski with his family and friends. He loved classical music and attended symphony and chamber music concerts with his wife for many years. John loved to travel and made numerous trips abroad with his beloved wife, Ann, who survives him and with whom he had just celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary. He is also survived by his daughter, Susan and son-in-law, Michael (St. Louis, MO); his daughter, Julie (Princeton, NJ); his son, Brian (Pittsburgh, PA); and two grandchildren, Nathan and Nicholas.
