CUNNINGHAM JOYCE W. Age 83, of Wilkinsburg, died in her sleep on Friday, November 22, 2013. She was baptized on November 24,1962 as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. "Sister Cunningham" as she was known by all in the West Wilkinsburg congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, and was a zealous preacher of the "good news" about God's Kingdom. Survived by her daughters, Jana Woodruff, Shawn Lineberg; and sons, James Woodruff and Daniel Cunningham. Will be missed by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. No Visitation. JONES JAMES RICHARD “DICK” 67, of Pittsburgh, PA, formerly of New Castle, passed away peacefully with his family at his side, the afternoon of November 21, 2013, in Mercy Hospital. Born on August 13, 1946, he was the son of the late Richard and Alice Louise Mitchell Jones. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Julie R. Jones. He is survived by a daughter, Jennifer R. Lennie; her husband, Ryan W. Lennie; and two granddaughters who he adored, Grace and Katherine Lennie. Originally from Punxsutawney, Dick graduated from Bucknell University with a Bachelor of Arts in Music. While at Bucknell, he was chosen to perform with the School Chorus of America which toured the USA and Europe. He completed his master's degree in Elementary Education at Westminster College. Dick taught music at several different schools in the New Castle School District, including: Ben Franklin, Lincoln Garfield, West Pittsburgh, and Mahoning, where he directed many shows including Peter Pan and The Wizard of Oz. He also taught kindergarten at Croton School. Upon his retirement, he became a musical theater professor at Point Park University. Dick was a former member of Northminster Church, where he had been the organist for several years. Dick loved Disney World and had the joy of being there with his granddaughters. Dick loved the theater and performed in numerous plays at the New Castle Playhouse including Mame and Cabaret. He also performed with the Red Barn Players, the Nutmeg Players in Madison, CT, and the theater at Clarion University. He also helped with Neshannock's musicals where his daughter performed. Dick was a member of the Chordially Yours Barbershop Quartet. He was also a 32 degree Mason belonging to the New Castle Valley Consistory. Visitation will be held Monday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at ED AND DON DeCARBO FUNERAL HOME, 3000 Wilmington Rd., New Castle, PA 16105. NIELANDER GEORGE W. "BUD" Born in Pittsburgh on June 19, 1936, passed away on Thursday, November 21, 2013, as a result of prostate cancer. George served in the U.S. Air Force from 1954-1962, attaining the rank of Staff Sargent. He returned to the Pittsburgh area in the early 1960s, lived in East Liberty, and raised his two children after an early divorce, later moving to nearby Oakland after his children grew up. George was preceded in death by his parents, George and Isabel Nielander. George is survived by son, George (Donna); and daughter, Debra Ishida; siblings, Patricia Florig, Virginia Deloe, and Tom (Nelita) Nielander; grandchildren, Sean and Maureen; cousins, John and Bill Kammerling; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. VELAR BERNICE E. On Thursday, November 21, 2013, at 1:40 a.m., Bernice E. Velar unexpectedly, yet peacefully, departed this earthly existence. Her cherished memory and legacy continues to resonate with her daughter, Bernice F. Anderson; and son, Anthony M. Velar; grandsons, Bruce G. Anderson and Tony E. Sharpe; great-grandsons, Aaron Sharpe and Antonio Anderson. Her husband, George N. Velar, and eldest daughter, Carole V. Sharpe preceded her in death. We are fortunate that her sister, Carmella Brown, and the extended Velar, Brown, Hopson and Elliott families as well as numerous nieces, nephews, lifelong and recently established friends remain to share and find comfort with her unique love of life. As wrenching a loss as this is, there is great comfort with the knowledge that she is now and will forever walk with God. KECK WILLIAM J., Jr. On Monday, November 18, 2013, of Friendship neighborhood, Pittsburgh, PA. Bill was the beloved husband of 40 years to Irene M. Biler; loving father of Harriet J. Keck (Pgh.), Wilma K. Thomas (Delaware), William J. Keck III (New York), and Scott A. Keck (Maryland); nine grandchildren; 11 great- grandchildren; and one great- great-granddaughter survive him. Brother of the late Ruth Wertz and Muriel Schultze. Bill was born on East End Ave., Pittsburgh, PA in 1918, a 1936 graduate of Wilkinsburg High School, and a WPIAL champion high jumper. He served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater during WWII. He was in New Guinea, Philippines and the battle on Island of Leyte, followed by an occupation of Japan before returning home. Bill was a 50 year Mason of Infinity Lodge No. 546 F. & A.M. Bill was a master craftsman, home builder, home constructor, and Real Estate broker. Prior to WWII, Bill worked on the Hoover Dam, restoring railroad sheds for the Truckee Railroad Project-Donner Pass, and building homes in Reno, NV. Post WWII, he prided himself for his design and carpentry at the Nationality Rooms, Cathedral of Learning, University of Pittsburgh. During the 50s, Bill designed and built Kingswood Manor in Churchill Borough. During the 60s, he was General Manager of the building of Bear Rocks Resort in Laurel Highlands. Bill was a longtime Real Estate Broker. Bill's most recent accomplishments were the restoration of homes in Wheeling, WV and Friendship, Pittsburgh. PLOWMAN JACK W. Died on Wednesday, November 20, 2013. Beloved husband for 61 years of Barbara (Brown) Plowman; devoted father of Linda E. Plowman, Esq. and Judith L. Plowman, M.D.; brother of the late Thelma Murphy and Ralph W. Plowman II; also survived by his nephews and a niece; and dear family friend and daughter-in-spirit, Ann Erny. Graduated cum laude from the University of Pittsburgh Law School, was Editor of the Law Review and a member of the Order of the Coif. Jack Plowman practiced law for over 56 years, establishing the law firm of Plowman & Spiegel, PC. He was most recently Of Counsel with Bentz Law Firm, PC in Mt. Lebanon. As an attorney, his areas of concentration included Construction, Surety and Fidelity Law, and the representation of nonprofits. His lifelong love for and dedication to the law is evidenced in his service as President of the Allegheny County Bar Association, Adjunct Professor of Law, Emeritus, at Duquesne Law School, Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, President of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania Historical Society, Editor-in-Chief of the Pittsburgh Legal Journal. He was admitted to practice before all courts in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and the Supreme Court of the United States. Jack also had a lifelong dedication to the United Methodist Church, serving on the Board of Trustees of the Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church, on the Board of the Methodist Publishing House, and as Chancellor of the Western Pennsylvania Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church for many years. As busy as life was professionally, he was a carpenter of note, renovating, improving and redesigning all aspects of his family's loved English Tudor house, gardens and yard. A respectful collector of old books, a traveler at heart and in practice, he was an active intellectual, a dry wit and a warm shoulder to rest on at all times. His greatest joy was loving and honoring his “girls”, who wish him an indescribably rich journey of all journeys throughout eternity. Those wishing to honor his life may make a donation to the Mt. MOROS GREGORY (GEORGE) Age 84, of Atco, New Jersey, passed away at his home, on November 14, 2013. He was the son of the late Peter and Katherine (Kraynyk) Moros of Coraopolis and McKees Rocks. Gregory was preceded in death by his beloved companion, Theresa DeSandro; his brother, Richard Moros; and aunts, uncles and cousins in his mother's family. His father came to America from Russia. He is survived by his aunts, Ann Wuycik, Ambridge, Stella Cox, Los Angeles, Rose McCarthy, Mt. Lebanon; his uncle, Michael Kraynyk, Santa Monica, CA; many cousins; and by many of Theresa DeSandro's family. Gregory was an Army veteran of the Korean War and worked for years with Western Electric Company, which took him to many places in the world and finally to New Jersey. ARMBRUSTER PAUL C. Of Decatur, GA, made his transition on Wednesday, October 23, 2013, from complications following heart surgery. Paul was born in 1948 in Pittsburgh, PA. While attending college, Paul worked for two summers at The Odd Chair Playhouse and as a cabaret performer for Pittsburgh legend, Don Brockett, before graduating from Clarion State College in 1970. He worked briefly as a school teacher, then as a traveling musician from 1972-1977. Paul moved to Los Angeles in 1978 and began to pursue a career in Voice Acting. He achieved much success in Los Angeles before moving to the Atlanta area in 1987 to continue his career, which also included acting in front of the camera in several national television productions. In Atlanta, he became a much sought after voice talent and enjoyed the most productive years of his career. He began teaching his signature, comprehensive voice-over workshop in 1989 and is credited with helping to develop the careers of countless successful voice-over artists. Music always remained a part of his life as he took his singing, guitar and bass playing skills into music ministry. For the past 21 years, he worked as a musician at The Cathedral of Christ the King Catholic Church in Atlanta. Paul was honored at a Memorial Mass at The Cathedral of Christ the King Catholic Church on Tuesday, October 29, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. A reception followed at the church. Paul is survived by his son, Darren Horejsi; his brother, Thomas Armbruster; sister-in-law, Nancy; and his niece, Jane. Paul was a wonderful man who touched many lives during his all too brief life.
